The Story
Born in 1890 in Mysore, Sadashivarao grew up in the richest musical atmosphere of the South — the court of the Wodeyar maharajas — and his voice was recognised as a gift of rare beauty. He trained in the Carnatic tradition and became one of the leading singers of the region.
He was also a composer of distinction: he wrote songs of great sweetness, and his compositions — both in the classical style and in the lighter forms of the land — were loved by the people. He guided a number of great musicians under his tutelage, and his life, as his biographers record, was pure and clean.
He died in 1975, honoured as one of the great musicians of Mysore. His songs and his teaching enriched the music of the South, and his name is remembered with respect in the musical tradition of Karnataka.
