Born in 1910 in Hoshiarpur, Nissar was a powerfully built athlete whose pace made him the fastest bowler in the land. In 1932 he was chosen for the historic first Indian Test team, and in that match at Lord's he took the first wicket in Indian Test history — a moment that made him immortal in the record of the game.
His bowling — genuinely fast, with a fierce delivery — troubled the greatest batsmen of the age, including the English masters, and his performances for India in its early Tests made him the spearhead of the side. He was the first of the great Indian fast bowlers, and his records stood for years.
