The Story
Born in 1910 in Rajkot, Amar Singh grew up in the cricket of the princely state of Nawanagar, the home of the legendary Ranji. He developed into one of the finest fast bowlers of the world — his pace, his movement, and his control made him the spearhead of the Indian attack.
He represented India in the 1930s, and his bowling in the Tests against England made him famous across the cricket world — the critics counted him among the greatest bowlers of the age. He was also a good batsman and a fine fielder, the complete cricketer of his generation.
He died in 1940, at just thirty — one of the great losses of the game. He is honoured as one of the finest fast bowlers of Indian cricket, and his name is remembered with respect in the history of the sport.
