The Story
Born in 1923, Shivaram trained as a doctor and practised medicine, but he was also one of the most productive writers of the language. He wrote novels, short stories, and essays in great number, and his works — full of warmth, humour, and the compassion of a healer — found a vast readership across Karnataka.
His writing reached the common reader in a way few writers have matched: his novels of everyday life, his essays of gentle wisdom, and his stories of the people made him one of the most popular writers of the age. He was also a respected editor and a worker for the development of the language.
